Partnering with Dementia Australia

Heartland Seniors Finance is proud to help seniors live a better retirement, with independence and dignity, through our reverse mortgage. As part of this commitment, we have partnered with Dementia Australia to support the great work that they do in promoting healthy ageing.

What is Dementia?

Dementia is a term used to describe the symptoms of a large group of illnesses, which cause a progressive decline in a person’s functioning, including memory, intellect, rationality, social skills and physical functioning

Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia, frontotemporal dementia and Lewy Body disease are all forms of dementia.

In Australia, Dementia is the second-leading cause of death. It claimed more than 13,000 Australia lives in 2016. 64.4% of those were female, which made it the leading cause of death among women.

Within five years, without a cure, Dementia will become the leading cause of death in Australia.

In 2017 Ipsos Australia conducted a survey which found that more than eight out of ten people were unaware of dementia’s deadly status and almost 40% said they didn’t know it could be actively managed.

413,000 people are estimated to currently be living with dementia and, without a significant breakthrough in medicine, that number is estimated to rise to as high as 1.1 million people by 2056 on the back of an ageing population.

About Dementia Australia

Dementia Australia is the national peak body for people living with dementia, including their families and carers. They work tirelessly to bring notice to this important health issue - especially as Australia’s ageing population increases.

Heartland’s commitment to customers

As a good corporate citizen, Heartland is proud to have partnered with Dementia Australia in 2018.

Heartland understands that each and every customer places their trust in us when we provide them with finance, and we take this duty of care seriously. During our application process, Heartland asks customers to consider their future needs, requirements and objectives. We also ensure that customers are making informed decisions, are encouraged to speak to family and advisers about finances, and is one of the reasons why independent legal advice is required.

About the Banking and Finance Oath

The Banking and Finance Oath is founded on a shared belief in the inherent ‘good’ of the banking and finance industry. Its vision is to have a banking and finance industry that meets the community’s needs and has its full confidence thereby fulfilling its integral role in society.

The Oath is an effort to improve the society by building trust and confidence in the industry through re-asserting the moral and ethical foundation of the industry beyond regulation, compliance and any professional standards and by broadening expectations and discussion to include ethics, integrity, honesty and trust.

The Oath

Trust is the foundation of my profession.

  • I will serve all interests in good faith.
  • I will compete with honour.
  • I will pursue my ends with ethical restraint.
  • I will help create a sustainable future.
  • I will help create a more just society.
  • I will speak out against wrongdoing and support others who do the same.
  • I will accept responsibility for my actions.

In these and all other matters; my word is my bond.
